Newly launched Benton The Label by Auckland’s Petra Benton is a refreshing take on the idea of slow fashion. Consisting of a concise capsule collection featuring an exclusive range of pieces in nautically themed crisp cottons, the brand’s debut offering sports clean yet playful lines, mirroring Benton’s intentional approach of combining an innate joyfulness with precision of design. Nautical detailing plays out in piquant sailor collars, fresh sky blue tones and bright whites, with the boxy-cut tops allowing for ease of living in their relaxed fit and blousy sleeves. A selection of bucket hats for New Zealand’s “cute weather moments” closes out the capsule collection in a range of prints and plains.
No stranger to the world of fashion, Benton, mother to an adventurous little boy (who can be spied wearing mini-me versions of Benton’s designs on the label’s Instagram), holds a Bachelor degree in Fashion Design, and has been working in the industry for many years in different capacities. Placing value on a made-to-order, slow-fashion approach that enables her to maintain a balanced lifestyle, Benton The Label sees Benton return to her own design roots, carefully designing, drafting and constructing each order herself with love and care from her Mission Bay studio.
