One that’ll get that foot tapping is new single and accompanying video ‘It’s So Real’ by The Black Seeds, released last Wednesday, and hot on its heels is the news of their seventh studio album LOVE & FIRE, slated for release on June 17th this year.
Relatable, humorous and a solidly good tune, ‘It’s So Real’ is about finding your inner superhero in the daily grind… and the juggling act of parenthood and relationships. In the Ria Simmons-directed video filmed in New Plymouth, a purple-capped and black-masked-and-caped Barnaby Weir takes us on a tour of daily stay-at-home-dad life with a toddler. From folding the washing to bus tripping and all of the nearly-but-not-quite relational moments in between, it’s just pretty darned heartwarming, while managing to capture the tension of the juggle to a tongue in cheek nicety.
The single itself is a strong and staple Black Seeds sound with a little extra funk thrown in the mix - its solid groove and emphatic lyrics bring the ‘realism’ home, and the magic - in signature Black Seeds style - is woven throughout in the treatment of guitar and bass, and its tasty and highly catchy horn riffs.
Give ‘It’s So Real’ a watch below, and keep an eye out for the new LOVE & FIRE album in June (pre-order/save here)!
